A Call to Action

Dear FAVER Employees:

In light of the recent tragic deaths of Ahmaud Arbery, Rayshard Brooks, George Floyd, Breonna Taylor and countless other people of color whose lives have been taken unjustly, I want to pledge FAVER’s commitment to ending racism.

As part of that commitment, I would like to invite all FAVER employees to voluntarily share in our pledge to end racism. If you would like to join in this initiative and sign the pledge, please do so in your personal/FAVER (and not federal/VA) capacity and return the signed pledge to me or Ellen Schneider. FAVER recognizes that grief and action are very personal, and we want to assure you there will be no judgment of whether or not you elect to join in this initiative. If you choose to participate, please review and sign the following commitment:

“I BELIEVE that every person has worth as an individual.

I BELIEVE that every person is entitled to dignity and respect, regardless of race or color.

I BELIEVE that every thought and every act of racial prejudice is harmful; if it is my thought or act, then it is harmful to me as well as to others.

Therefore, from this day forward:

I WILL strive daily to eliminate racial prejudice from my thoughts and actions.

I WILL discourage racial prejudice by others at every opportunity.

I WILL treat all people with dignity and respect.

I WILL commit to working with others to transform the Atlanta metropolitan area into a place that treats people of all races, ethnicities, and cultures with justice, equity, and compassion, and

I WILL strive daily to honor this pledge, knowing that the world will be a better place because of my effort.”

Attached is a copy of my signed commitment. This commitment will be posted on FAVER’s website as well as in our office area.

FAVER remains committed to adhering to and upholding its policies and procedures such as equal opportunity, respectful workplace and non-discrimination and anti-harassment.

Please reach out to me or Ellen if you have any questions or would like to further discuss.

If you are interested in taking a leadership role and/or participating in an Employee Resource Group, contact Ellen at [email protected]create new email. An Employee Resource Group is a voluntary, employee-led group fostering a diverse, inclusive workplace aligned with FAVER’s mission and values.

With respect,
Leslie Hughes
